The kids are finally out of school and the fish are biting. We've been doing a lot of inshore fishing in the lagoon lately trying to dial in the snook. Finally the snook bite has turned on for us but figures right at the end of the season it turns on. Closed season for snook is June 1st to September 1st so all summer it will be fun fishing and picture taking of these line siders. We've been mainly fishing around the spoil islands as well as hitting a few docks in the area. Top baits have been croakers, mullet, threadfins, and pogies. Other than snook we're catching lots of small speckled trout on artificial baits and live shrimp as well as lady fish. Haven't done to much fishing at the inlet in the last few weeks for a couple reasons. One: the dredging which has dirtied up the water so bad at times and two: the Goliath grouper are horrible right now. It is so hard to get a fish to the boat when the goliaths are there.
Bowfishing is on fire right now and we finally got the new lights setup on the boat. We're running six 150 watt lights off a small quiet generator and what a game changer these new lights have been.
Offshore fishing has been pretty much us dodging the storms. Great one day and bad the next, weather wise. We got out at the beginning of the week on an almost flat calm day and did fairly well. We caught a bunch of undersized vermillion snapper, grunts, and blue runners. There were also some good keepers in the mix too like mutton snapper, lane snapper, black margates, triggerfish, and bluefish. Of course we also got a bunch of red snapper.
