Pumpkin Patch Time

October is here and so are the bull redfish. Just as I figured from my last post, the mullet came in about a week later and the bite was on fire for a few days. As usual, every year in late September into October them pumpkin colored redfish come bull dogging into Sebastian Inlet devouring everything in their path. Unfortunately reds are closed for harvest with no date anytime soon for it to reopen.

We've also been consistently catching redfish inshore along the mangrove shorelines as well. Pulling snook and redfish out of the mangroves is definitely a little challenging for someone who's never done it before but is quite rewarding. On our last trip I had two guys lose 6 big fish in the mangroves. Finally I had to show them how it's done, one cast and boom snook in the boat. Later on that afternoon I took my 7 year old daughter to the same identical spot to see if she could pull a fish out from the mangroves. Sure enough, like a pro, redfish in the boat. The kid is a prodigy for sure, If you can get them out and away from the structure quick then you're in the clear but if not, then it turns into a technical battle. Those mangroves and dock pilings have razor sharp barnacles all over them so if your fish gets tangled up in there you have to be easy fighting them. If we're fishing a shallow enough area I will usually jump in the water and help untangle the fish. A lot of times with a big snook that runs me under a dock I'll open my bail, jump in, and chase it out from the dock into the open water then fight him but that's for serious fishermen.

We've just had a tropical storm graze by Florida earlier this week which has torn up the ocean pretty bad for the next week or so. Reports are saying 6 ft to 7 ft waves until the middle of next week then should drop down to about 4 ft to 5 ft by the next weekend. That being said we most likely won't be doing any offshore fishing or fishing outside the jetty for a couple weeks. Fishing inside the inlet can be very successful this time of year if we can find where they're staging up.

If anybody would like to get out and do some hunting just give me a call. It is Archery season right now until October 12th then we have Muzzleloading that starts October 18th to the 26th. After that is General gun from November 1st to January 11th. I've been seeing lots of wild hogs and a few does here and there. We did see a monster buck one evening hunt a couple weeks ago but he was out of range. That means he's still out there cruising around for the taking. The only way to get out to these areas is by airboat so give us a call and we can get you set up for an exciting hunt.
